Originally the Big Local area was called Grays Riverside but this name was confused with the councillors ward and lots of people thought it was something to do with the council. So we decided to change the name. A survey was conducted of those who were coming along to the meetings to see what could be a better name and after lots of suggestions the name Riverside Community was chosen as one boundary is the river and it is all about a community. Next was a logo that could represent the area, the one that was eventually picked tries to show that lots of different communities make up the area. Take a look at the map and see the area covered by the Riverside Community.

Riverside Community is entirely manned by volunteers and we are always looking for new people to join us. Ideally we would like a representative from every street in the Big Local area. We want to find what is the best way to use our £1,000,000 from the Big Lottery Fund so that it makes a lasting positive difference to the community.

 So what else have we been doing?

  • We have had stands at the Big Lunch in Grays Town park, T-fest in Grays Beach Park, All Saints Street Party, Festive Fun at the Civic Hall
  • Talked several times at Orchard Forum, Thameside Academy PTA and with the school council
  • Held meetings in Seabrooke Community House, Thurrock Adult Community College, Thurrock Asian Association, All Saints in John Street and the Beehive Centre.
  • Now we are taking to the streets asking people for their opinions in a survey

We need everyone to come together and start sharing ideas as the £1 million needs to be invested carefully and ultimately benefit everyone in the Riverside community but this can only be done with your help. Spread the word, talk with your neighbours and tell us their priorities for the future or perhaps consider volunteering as a street rep?
