A brief report from Emma Harrington of Thames 21 about the recent Grays Beach Litter Pick.
Firstly a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who gave their time to help last Saturday. It was a really great turn out and great to see that everyone was so enthusiastic.
There were about 60 of us out there and as well as removing 18 trolleys, we managed to fill nearly 140 bags; I am so impressed that half of these were filled with plastic bottles and cans that will be recycled and not sent to landfill.
I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Thurrock Council for helping with the supply of bags and taking the rubbish away on Monday and to Thurrock Yacht Club for providing facilities and offering somewhere to warm up!
The artist Michelle was also able to take away a couple of bags of litter that she will be making into an art sculpture. This should be on view at the Totally Thames Festival which takes place in September. And Viktor managed to take away a bag full of plastic lids that will be moulded into toys with young people at the Edinburgh Science Festival in April.
