Because part of Grays is a Big Local area, those living in the Big Local area have the opportunity to apply for grants from UnLtd. There grants (Try-It, Do-It & Build-It.) are to start up a business or expand a business, however, UnLtd are interested in those businesses that will have an impact on the community.
If you think that you have a business idea or have started a business that might qualify, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org come along to the next Riverside Community Big Local meeting which is on the 20th of November at 8:00pm in the new South Essex College campus in Grays

Riverside Community Big Local has been granted permission to extend its borders. Initially the Big Local had cut in half one of the residents forum’s, so only half the Orchards Forum was within the borders of the Big Local area. Now the National Lottery and Local Trust have agreed to extend the area to include Kent Rd, Salisbury Rd, Richmond Rd and Benson Rd as the housing is similar to that south of East Thurrock Rd. So when the partnership is created residents in these roads will also be able to benefit from the money coming into the area. There is to be a public meeting at 8.00pm on the 20th of November in the new South Essex College campus in Grays for residents of the Riverside Community to elect the board. The expanded area is shown on the map below.
Originally the Big Local area was called Grays Riverside but this name was confused with the councillors ward and lots of people thought it was something to do with the council. So we decided to change the name. A survey was conducted of those who were coming along to the meetings to see what could be a better name and after lots of suggestions the name Riverside Community was chosen as one boundary is the river and it is all about a community. Next was a logo that could represent the area, the one that was eventually picked tries to show that lots of different communities make up the area. Take a look at the map and see the area covered by the Riverside Community.
Riverside Community is entirely manned by volunteers and we are always looking for new people to join us. Ideally we would like a representative from every street in the Big Local area. We want to find what is the best way to use our £1,000,000 from the Big Lottery Fund so that it makes a lasting positive difference to the community.
“We want to bring together all the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live.” – BIG Local
So what else have we been doing?
We have had stands at the Big Lunch in Grays Town park, T-fest in Grays Beach Park, All Saints Street Party, Festive Fun at the Civic Hall
Talked several times at Orchard Forum, Thameside Academy PTA and with the school council
Held meetings in Seabrooke Community House, Thurrock Adult Community College, Thurrock Asian Association, All Saints in John Street and the Beehive Centre.
Now we are taking to the streets asking people for their opinions in a survey
We need everyone to come together and start sharing ideas as the £1 million needs to be invested carefully and ultimately benefit everyone in the Riverside community but this can only be done with your help. Spread the word, talk with your neighbours and tell us their priorities for the future or perhaps consider volunteering as a street rep?
Regular meetings are held so if you are looking to actively help with the project, contribute
ideas or simply wish to find out more information please feel free to attend. Alternatively you can find us on facebook, twitter and for further information view the rest of the website.
